SCO future customers

Message ID: 9542 Posted By: martin_lvnv Posted On: 2003-05-29 18:41:00 Subject: sco future customers? Recs: 1 Given the incredibly bad public relations mess SCO has created with the lawsuit and threats I believe that a huge percentage of companies and programmers think poorly of SCO at this point. So who is SCO going to sell software to? I expect most people programming with or buying web services software won't buy from SCO. I know I wouldn't buy anything from SCO myself. SCO had to realize the firestorm that would result from their legal strategy. This leads me to believe they are not planning on selling software in the future but planning on getting 100% of their income from IP like rambus.Once you create enough of a bad taste to turn your company into a pariah, legal action is the only way left to make money. Just heard David Boies took the case on contingency. Boy do I feel sorry for him. ------------------------------------------------------------

How can anybody be bullish?

How on earth can SCOX compete with Linux, FreeBSD, and other UNIX offerings? Finacial statemesnts look like a disaster. Seems to me that, at best, SCOX can hang on to it's current customers. What am I missing? I am not trolling, I'm just new SCOX. ------------------------------------------------------------ The text of this Yahoo Message Board post has been licensed for copying and distribution by the Yahoo Message Board user "walterbyrd" under the following license: License:  CC Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike v2.0 ------------------------------------------------------------

Recs: 0 This seems to be funny: SCO claims that "We're finding...cases where there is line-by-line code in the Linux kernel that is matching up to our UnixWare code," McBride said in an interview. Now SCO is publishing Linux under the GPL licence which states that: "You must cause any work that you distribute or publish, that whole or in part contains or is derived from the Program or any part thereof, to be licensed as a whole at no charge to all third parties under the terms of this License". Meanwhile, even though they would still hold the copyright on the infringing code, they would have released it under the GPL, and can't relicense it without running into yet another problem: "You may not copy, modify, sublicense, or distribute the Program except as expressly provided under this License.
