Let's try this.
SCO itself, other than lining the exec's pockets , doesn't need the 10.50 as the redemption option is theirs.
But the skull sweat of others here suggests that someone spent around 4M to push it up there. The only other interested party who would care about the 10.50 is BayStar so why would they?
To keep SCO from executing an option they can't afford to execute. Which, (donning tinfoil hat with pink puffball at the crown) might suggest that they think SCO just *might* try a suicide play to extort more money out of them (I. e deliver the redemption note), which 5 days later allows them to declare bankruptcy.
Which give rise to three more questions (clear indicator that we've gone beyond what the facts allow us to speculate on, but fun anyway)
Why does BS care? Their money's gone anyway.
Because it looks bad on the books, but more than that whoever is pulling their strings (AAA MS choo - excuse me) wants to keep their tentacles in this game.
Why would SCO want to go bankrupt? I don't think the three stooges (Darl, Chris and Blake) do, but I think it quite possible that Canopy would love to see SCO disappear overnight to protect their precious veil from the unwanted piercing that IBM is now mounting to deliver.
If SCO wants to go bankrupt why don't they just dissolve. That one's easy... with 40M nominally in the bank, that would attract too much attention and leave Yarrow's corporate maidenhead more exposed than it is to IBM.
So my take on this, is that we are seeing a fight between the Baystar backers and the Canopy group [late in the third quarter folks, and the Canopians just blocked a field goal!]. In actuality our stooge friends, however willing to go along at the beginning are now pawns of the bigger players.
Prediction then, that this will crash tomorrow, but if there is no judicial action, in 20 days expect it to be pumped again over 10.50.
< removes tin-foil hat ... that was fun!>
